If the squeak is in an upstairs bedroom or hallway, there's finished drywall underneath it — so the usual fix means cutting the ceiling open from below. And the kits sold for fixing squeaks from above drive screws straight through the face of your carpet, leaving dimples and holes you'll see for as long as you own it.
We do it a third way: pull the carpet and pad back, screw the subfloor down at the joists where we can actually see them, then reinstall and power stretch the carpet. No damage to the carpet and properly done seams. So it looks like nothing happened.

Keep in mind!
Some noise in a house is normal, and no method eliminates every sound a floor makes. Joists themselves can move, plumbing and ductwork can knock, and stairs have their own set of causes.
What we can tell you: securing the subfloor to the joists resolves the large majority of carpeted floor squeaks, and substantially reduces the rest. If we get in there and find something outside what screws will fix — a structural issue, a joist problem, something in the framing — we'll stop and tell you rather than charging you for a result you're not going to get.
