J’s Floor Service FAQ

  • No — it's me. I do the work myself on every job, so the person who gives you the quote is the person who shows up.

  • Overland Park and all of Johnson County, plus the greater Kansas City metro. Weekdays, 9 to 5.

Carpet Stretching Services

  • No — the whole room gets stretched. Pulling slack out of one section pushes it into another direction, so a partial stretch usually creates a new wrinkle somewhere else within a few months. Stretching the full room is the only way it holds.

  • Usually it was power-stretched poorly at install, or not at all. Heat and humidity, heavy rolling furniture, and pets dragging on it all accelerate it. Once it's properly power-stretched, it should stay flat for the life of the carpet.

  • Yes — the room needs to be clear before I start. I can move furntiure for an additional cost. Reach out for a free estimate.

Carpet Repair Services

  • There's almost always a donor spot — the back of a closet or under a piece of furniture that never moves. I take from somewhere nobody looks and patch that spot instead. If there's genuinely nothing, we talk about the options before I start.

  • Yes, failed seams are often the result of a poorly done seam. In extreme cases it’s the carpet delaminating from urine or improper cleaning methods.

Carpet Removal/Reinstall Service

  • That's exactly what this service is. I take the carpet up cleanly so it can be reused, you or your contractor do the subfloor work, and I come back and reinstall it stretched properly. Plumbers, floor levelers, and squeak repairs are the usual reasons.

  • In most cases, yes. Carpet in decent condition handles removal and reinstall fine. Old, brittle-backed, or badly worn carpet is more likely to tear at the edges — I'll tell you what I'm seeing before we commit.

  • Two trips, and we schedule the second one around when the subfloor work is done. Let me know the rough timeline when you call so I can plan for it.

Squeaky Floor Services

  • Yes. I pull the carpet back, fasten the subfloor down to the joists where it's separated, and reinstall the carpet stretched. From the top, you'd never know anyone was there.

  • The subfloor has come loose from the joist and moves against a nail when you step on it. It's the movement that makes noise, not the wood itself. Refastening it properly stops it.

  • Most of them. Squeaks from a joist issue, a floor system problem, or something in a wall are different animals. I'll be straight with you about what I can and can't get to.

Carpet Cleaning Service

Cleaning is handled by Home Central Floor Care — my father's company, run independently. Same standards, and we coordinate scheduling so a repair and a cleaning can happen on the same visit instead of two separate calls.

  • After, for a few reasons. The work itself kicks up soil and involves walking the carpet. Cleaning also helps a freshly stretched carpet relax into place faster. And wrinkled carpet collects soil along the raised ridges — once it's stretched flat, that soil line is exposed, and a cleaning is what removes it.

  • About once a year for most homes; every six months with pets, kids, or heavy traffic. Regular cleaning is also what keeps a carpet's warranty valid on a lot of manufacturers.
